Description

Echinacea purpurea (Eastern purple coneflower or Purple coneflower) is a species of flowering plant in the genus Echinacea. Its cone-shaped flowering heads are usually, but not always purple. It is native to eastern North America and present to some extent in the wild in much of the eastern, southeastern and midwest United States. It is also grown as an ornamental plant, and numerous cultivars have been developed for flower quality and plant form.

Polyphenols and Chicoric Acid are two main active ingredients in Echinacea purpurea extract. Echinacea purpurea extract is a traditional herbal remedy for the symptomatic relief of colds, influenza type infections and similar upper respiratory tract conditions.

Application

Echinacea (Echinacea angustifolia) is also known as coneflower. echinacea is well known for its ability to boost the body's immune system. It is described as having antiseptic and anti-bacterial properties rendering it helpful in treating skin lesions and in shortening skin healing time. It also has anti-itching, soothing, and moisturizing properties when used in skin care products. It is commonly used in acne preparations. The main constituents of both the oil and the resin, derived from the wood or bark of the plant are inulin, inuloid, sucrose, betaine, phytosterols, and fatty acids such as oleic, cerotic, lizolic, and palmitic.
