Sodium Ferulate (SF), trade name angelicaine, is the sodium salt of ferulic acid (Ferulicacid), chemically known as the sodium salt of 3-methoxy-4-hydroxyacrylic acid; it is an effective monomer shared by traditional blood-stasis-activating Chinese medicine Angelica and Chuanxiong. It is commonly found in Chinese herbs such as Angelica sinensis, Chuanxiong rhizome, propolis and sour date palm, etc. It has pharmacological effects such as inhibiting platelet aggregation, promoting platelet depolymerization, anti-thrombosis, relieving vascular smooth muscle spasm, anti-oxidation and free radicals, improving membrane stability, as well as anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-fertility, regulating immune function, and beneficial liver moisturization. It is mainly used clinically for the treatment of various cerebrovascular diseases, such as cerebral infarction, sequelae of cerebral hemorrhage, transient cerebral ischemia; and cerebral atherosclerosis, headache, dizziness, insomnia, memory loss; for the treatment of coronary heart disease, dilating coronary arteries, increasing their blood flow and improving myocardial nutrition; also for leukopenia, vasculitis and benzene poisoning.
