Fluorocarbon coatings can be divided into thermoplastic fluorocarbon coatings and thermosetting fluorocarbon coatings according to their forming processes. Typical thermoplastics, represented by Kynar500, are architectural protective coatings, which have been used outdoors for more than 40 years and show excellent weather resistance. Typical thermosetting fluorocarbon coatings include Lumiflon Lumiflon series products developed by AGC, which also have a wide range of applications in the construction industry, especially in bridge applications. Different from AGC, Dakin has developed tetrafluorocarbon resin GK570 series products.

As a weather-resistant coating product, FEVE coating has a designed service life of 15 to 20 years. This lifetime is directly related to the fluorine content of the fluorocarbon resin used. Generally speaking, the higher the fluorine content, the better the weather resistance. On the other hand, the cross-linking agent also affects its weather resistance, especially acid rain resistance: the fluorocarbon coating cross-linked by amino resin has better weather resistance than the coating cross-linked by isocyanate.
