Artemether (English: Artemether) is an antimalarial drug used to treat multidrug-resistant Plasmodium falciparum malaria. Novartis is the first to sell its compound medicine combined with Benfluorenol under its trade names with Riamet and Coartem. Chemically, artemether is a semi-synthetic derivative of artemisinin. Artesunate is included in the World Health Organization's standard list of essential medicines and is one of the most important essential health medicines.
 

Function of artemether

1. With function of controlling of vivax malaria and falciparum malaria symptom, as well as treatment of chloroquine-resistant strain of insect.
2. With function of oxidant. artemisinin is reduced by catalase,dithiothreitol and alpha tocopherol.
3. With the function of antibacterial, artemisinin has anti-influenza virus effect.
4. With the function of anti-parasite, artemisinin on the role of anti-schistosomiasis and leptospirosis. .

Application of artemether

Artesunate is used primarily as treatment for malaria; it has also been shown to be >90% efficacious at reducing egg production in Schistosoma haematobium infection.According to WHO intravenous AS is the drug of choice for severe malaria both in children and adults where there is low transmission.In regions where transmission is high, randomized trials among Asian adults and African children strongly advocates the use of artesunate over quinine as the treatment of choice for falciparum malaria.  .
