AAC, AAAC and ACSR form part of the aerial, transmission and distribution conductor family. The official names for these cables are all aluminum conductors (AAC), all aluminum alloy conductors (AAAC), and steel core aluminum conductors (ACSR). These overhead aluminum conductors are used as transmission and distribution lines. All aluminum wires consist of one or more strands of aluminum wire, depending on the application.
Aluminum overhead wire cable includes:
AAC -- All aluminum conductor
AAC is a refined stranded aluminium wire with a minimum metal purity of 99.7%. It is mainly used in urban areas with short spacing and tight supports. Due to its high corrosion resistance, it can be used in coastal areas and is also widely used in the railway and subway industry.
AAAC- All aluminum alloy conductor
AAAC is used as bare conductor cable on overhead circuit, its mechanical resistance is larger than AAC, and its corrosion resistance is better than ACSR. The sag characteristics and strength-weight ratio of AAAC cable are better than those of AAC and ACSR.
ACSR- Steel core aluminum conductor
Steel-cored aluminum strand wires range in steel content from 6% to 40% to increase strength. High strength steel core aluminum stranded wire is commonly used for river crossing, overhead ground lines and installations involving long spans. ACSR wires can be manufactured to different tensile strengths for any given resistance, so their high tensile strength, combined with their lightweight properties, means they can be covered over longer distances with fewer supports. Due to the larger diameter of ACSR wire, a higher corona limit can be obtained, which is beneficial to high voltage and ultra high voltage overhead lines.
ACAR-aluminum Alloy core aluminum conductor
ACAR is a concentric stranded wire made of round aluminum 1350-H19 (super hard) wire and round aluminum 6201-T81 wire.ACAR conductors have single-layer and multi-layer structures. These choices provide the necessary strength and current carrying capacity for a given application
