Stijve koppelingen van het type sluiteenheid voor toepassingen waarbij uitlijning essentieel is, geen speling gewenst is en flexibiliteit niet vereist is.  De eendelige starre koppeling wikkelt zich om de as, waardoor een hoog torsievermogen wordt geboden zonder dat de as beschadigd en fretting vertoont.  De tweedelige starre koppeling heeft het extra voordeel dat hij demontage en onderhoud mogelijk maakt zonder andere componenten te verwijderen.
