Product overview
A high voltage very low frequency AC hipot tester is used to test the insulation resistance of electrical equipment under high voltage conditions. It works by applying a high AC voltage at a very low frequency, typically around 50/60 Hz, to the equipment under test and measuring any leakage current. This tests the insulation's ability to withstand the applied voltage.
Main features
• It can generate high AC voltages, typically from 1 kV up to several 10s of kV depending on the specific tester. This voltage stress tests the insulation.
• It operates at very low frequencies, around the mains power frequency of 50/60 Hz. This allows the insulation to be tested under conditions similar to normal operation. Higher frequencies may not detect certain types of insulation degradation.
• It can measure very small leakage currents, down to the microamp range, that may indicate insulation degradation or defects. Any leakage current above a given threshold indicates a failure.
• It has safety features like overvoltage protection, current limiting and grounding to protect the equipment under test from damage and the operator from electrical hazards.
• The user interface allows for adjusting test voltage levels, frequencies, timing and threshold settings to customize the test for specific insulation requirements.
