Chemical formula: MoS2, lead grey powder with melting point of 1185ºC.
Molybdenum Disulphide can sustain 349°C high temperature with considerable long duration of time while it presents excellent lubrication effect under low temperature by reducing friction force and abrasion.The rapid oxidation temperature of this product is at 423ºC, and its oxidation product MoS3 can be combined with iron to become transfer film to generate high friction performance. Therefore, the oxidation effect will cause the friction coefficient to rise rapidly along with the increase of temperature when the temperature of products containing Molybdenum Disulphide reaches 400 to 600ºC,. When the temperature rises above 540ºC, the friction coefficient will increase faster. However, it can effectively reduce the abrasion of products to enhance the wear resistance. The friction industry uses this material as high temperature friction requlator due to these outstanding characteristics.
The consumption of Molvbdenum Disulphide is limited to be used only in some high-performance fiction products, for instance some OEM formulas for passenger car brake pads.
