For Anthraquinone Dyes: Environmental Fate: Anthraquinonedyes are aerobically degraded in a manner similar to anthraquinone oranthraquinone-2-sulfonate. It has been demonstrated that three bacterialstrains could grow with the anthraquinone dye Acid Blue 277:1 as a sole sourceof energy. Terrestrial Fate: Virtually alldyes from all chemically distinct groups are prone to fungal oxidation butthere are large differences between fungal species with respect to theircatalyzing power and dye selectivity. A clear relationship between dyestructure and fungal dye biodegradability has not been established.
