Pipes Free Acid (CAS#5625-37-6)

piperazine-N,N'-bis(2-ethane sulfonic acid),
also known as 1,4-piperazine diethanesulfonic acid,
the product is a white crystalline powder, the product is not readily soluble in water,
but soluble in alkaline solutions, with no irritating odor,

Pipes Free Acid is different from buffers containing di(2-hydroxyethyl) amino groups (such as Bis-tris, and Bicine),
it cannot form stable complexes with most metal ions,
so it can be applied as a buffer in solution systems containing metal ions.

Pipes Free Acid is an essential biological buffer that can be used in phosphocellulose chromatography for the purification of microtubule proteins;
in gel filtration for purification of recombinant GTP-binding proteins ARF1 and ARF2;
as a buffer for the crystallization of transketolase from E. coli;
it is not suitable for redox systems due to its ability to form free radicals; in cation exchange chromatography,
a low concentration of Pipes buffer should be used.
Pipes Free Acid buffer can also be used for cell cycle detection by flow cytometry.
