Vancomycin is a narrow-spectrum antibiotic, which is only effective against gram-positive bacteria, such as hemolytic streptococcus, pneumococcus and enterococcus, and is particularly sensitive to drug-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. Its mechanism of action is to inhibit the synthesis of bacterial cell wall, which mainly combines with bacterial cell wall and prevents some amino acids from entering the glycopeptides of cell wall. It is mainly used for severe infections caused by penicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, such as pneumonia, endocarditis and septicemia. It also has a good effect on infections and septicemia caused by hemolytic streptococcus.
