Sanchi, also known as radix notoginseng, is a Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) prepared from roots of the herb Panax notoginseng . It is traditionally used as a hemostatic medicine to control internal and external bleeding in China for thousands of years. According to the theory of traditional Chinese medicine, Sanchi is sweet, bitter in flavor, and enters the "heart," "pericardium," and "liver" channels which function in activating blood circulation of the whole body. With the increasing attention to complementary and alternative medicine, natural products have been clinically used worldwide for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) due to their vasodilatory and antihypertensive actions with good effect. Currently, Sanchi as a commonly used herb for stanch bleeding, invigorating, and supplementing blood has been used for treating CVDs.
