Its hardness is between corundum and diamond, its mechanical strength is higher than corundum, and it is brittle and sharp. Green silicon carbide is made from petroleum coke and high-quality silica as the main raw material, adding salt as an additive, and smelted at high temperature in a resistance furnace. Its hardness is between corundum and diamond, and its mechanical strength is higher than that of corundum.

Black Silicon Carbide is brittle and sharp. It has a good electrical and heat conductivity. Its Knoophandness is 3100-3280kg/mm2. Grinding wheels made of C are suitable for the grinding of metal and nometalic materials of low tensile strength such as grey cast iron, brass, aluminium, stone materials, leather and rubber etc. Moreover, it can also be used in the manufacture of refractory products and electric products etc.
