Lidocaine is a local anesthetic, also known as Cerocaine, which has replaced procaine in recent years and is widely used in cosmetic plastic surgery for local infiltration anesthesia. It blocks nerve excitation and conduction by inhibiting sodium ion channels in nerve membranes. Its fat solubility, protein binding rate were higher than procaine, strong penetrating ability, quick action, long action time, effect intensity is 4 times of procaine. Clinical applications include infiltration anesthesia, epidural anesthesia, surface anesthesia (including mucosal anesthesia during thoracoscopic or abdominal surgery), and nerve blocks. In order to prolong the duration of anesthesia and reduce the toxicity of lidocaine and other side effects, adrenalin can be added to the anesthetic. Lidocaine is also used for the treatment of ventricular premature beats, ventricular tachycardia, digitalis poisoning, cardiac surgery, and ventricular catheterization caused by ventricular arrhythmias, including premature beats, ventricular tachycardia, and ventricular fibrillation after acute myocardial infarction. Secondly, it is also used for epileptic status in which other anticonvulsants have failed and for local or spinal anesthesia. But it is usually ineffective for supraventricular arrhythmias.
