Betulinic acid (BA), also known as Betulinic acid, is a natural lupane pentacyclic triterpenoid compound. 3β -hydroxy-LUP -20(29) -ENe-28-Oic acid, molecular formula C30H48O3, molecular weight 456.71, CAS Number 472-15-1, boiling point 550.0±33.0 °C(Predicted), Acidity coefficient (pKa)4.61±0.70(Predicted) and density 1.065± 0.06g /cm3(Predicted), it is a white crystalline powder with mild air and bitter taste. It was first discovered in the 1990s in the bark of evergreen rhamnoides that grow in eastern Africa.

Betulinic acid has several biological sources. It can be extracted from the leaves of peach tree, birch bark and jujube seed. Betulin can also be used as raw materials through chemical synthesis. Studies in the mid-1990s found that betulinic acid can selectively kill human melanoma cells without killing healthy cells. Betulinic acid has an inhibitory effect on HIV-1 infection, and recent studies have shown that betulinic acid also has an inhibitory effect on brain tumor, neuroectodermal tumor, leukemia and other malignant tumor cells.
