Glabridin, an isoflavane isolated from Glycyrrhiza glabra, binds and activates PPARγ with an EC50 of 6115 nM. Glabridin has antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-nephritis, anti-diabetic, anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory, anti-osteoporosis, cardiovascular protection, nerve protection, and free radical scavenging effects.

Glabridin is a flavonoid active ingredient derived from licorice root. It is a common skin lightening ingredient. Only 1g of licorice can be extracted per 500kg of licorice root. And its whitening effect is 1000 times that of vitamin C, so it also enjoys the reputation of "whitening gold". As the main ingredient of licorice on the skin, Glycyrrhizin is mild and non-irritating. Glycyrrhizin is recognized as a safe and scientific whitening cosmetic ingredient.


Application:
 
As a natural whitening ingredient, the whitening mechanism of glabridin mainly includes:

(1) Inhibit tyrosinase activity

(2) Inhibit the activity of dopachrome tautomerase (tRP-2)

(3) Inhibit the activity of DHICA oxidase;

(4) Play the role of endothelin antagonist;

(5) Increase the total antioxidant capacity of the skin;

(6) Effectively scavenge oxygen free radicals and their chain reactions. Furthermore, through these synergistic effects, the polymerization of 5.6-dihydroxyindole (DHI) and the production of dopachrome were effectively prevented. Therefore, licorice can interfere and hinder the formation and transportation of melanin; then inhibit and reduce pigmentation, so as to achieve the effect of whitening the skin.
