Invar 36, also known as FeNi36, is iron-nickel alloys have low coefficients of expansion over only a rather narrow range of temperature. It has a low coefficient of expansion from cryogenic temperatures to about 260ºC. In the dry air at home temperature, invar 36 has good resistance to corrosion. But in moist air, it may go corrosion.
Invar 36 is suitable for the applications who require low coefficient of expansion, such as production, storage and transportation of liquid gas, temperature regulation devices working below 200ºC, aperture mask, unit frameworks working below -200ºC and so on.

Thermal Expansion Properties
The following are the average coefficient of expansion properties after annealing in hydrogen for 1 hr at 1650°F (900°C) and 15 minutes at 2010°F (1099°C) and cooled to room temperature within 1 hr. Material heat treated using this procedure should not exhibit any transformation when cooled to -112°F (-80°C) for 4 hrs. This was determined by means of metallographic examination.
